But other than that, the weapons just seem so imbalanced among each other in-terms of attack power, armor penetration, ammo scarcity, and which enemies each of these weapons can handle, whether it's the smaller, weaker, grunt-level enemies for the pistol-type weapons, or the larger, stronger, elite/boss-level enemies for the rifle-type weapons. And there aren't any sniper-rifles either, except maybe the MARK III Assault Rifle, just without a scope.Īnd the only balance I can find in System Shock's weaponry is probably the ammo for larger, stronger weapons being much rarer and more difficult to find than ammo for smaller, weaker weapons. But instead of the shotgun, there is a riot gun that doesn't do any damage at all, as well as two different melee weapons being the closest things I'm ever going to get to close-quarter weapons similar to shotguns. I mean, there are still pistols, magnums, two different variations of submachine gun, a semi-automatic assault rifle, a grenade launching rail gun for elite and boss-level enemies, and energy weapons that come in the same pistol and rifle varieties as the ballistic ones. Like, these weapons are usually balanced among each other so as to prevent each of them from having any unfair advantages over many of the others.īut with System Shock, they aren't balanced among each other so much as get more powerful than the previous. Normally, I've already gotten used to weapons in other first-person shooters consisting of familiar archetypes like assault rifles, shotguns, sniper-rifles, SMGs, LMGs, etc.
